HH-Milch - Fun Fun Fun

Picture 1: HH-Milch in Lübek prior to a show at Alternative, ca. 1984 (Jörgi, Volli, Pepe, Christian, Hardy)

This picture was made prior to just another show at the Alternative in Lübek (some 70 km north of Hamburg) together with a band from the UK (name lost). HH-Milch had their first spot there together with Slime ca. 1982 - this leading of getting constant abuse by some HH-Skins from Horn (that's why some members of HH-Milch founded the Hells-Horners - who were famed by Säurekeller (just another band from that time) in the "Hells Horners Rap" on their first LP ) in being left-wing Slime supporters, wich in fact they weren't (Slime supporters, of course). Original HH-Milch guitarist Timo (of Finish fame) had been replaced by Jörgi. Timo went to later fame with Die Knallschoten (replacing Rudi K.), who changed from Punk (with Rudi K. and Kajan) to Hardcore Skiffel (as a trio w/ Timo, Biber and Pizza).

The world won't listen ...

Picture 2: HH-Milch, Alternative Lübek, ca. 1984 (Pepe (g), Volli (v), Christian (d), Hardy (b), Jörgi (g))

These days Timo is giving speaches at the MIT in Boston on Java - hey thats were all the bootboys go!. HH-Milch ended their life with a brillant show w/ the mighty RAMONES in Hamburg in 1985. Bass player Hardy is now - after changing bands & style constantly (and after a short stint in Stalker (w/ Zündi of Bonzen fame) - part of Element of Crime, a rather huge rockband from Berlin. Christian is Captain of FC St. Pauli 5. Herren soccer team and local known architect, Jörgi went somewhere but is still around in Hamburg. Pepe left Hamburg for a marriage and a "normal" life somewhere in a small town.

where is fame & fortune? Berlin, where are you? United we stand

One of the nicest shows outside of Hamburg was with Die Mimmis (from Bremen) at a fucked up small club in Berln (our old friend Zündi from Bonzen Fanzine was responsible for that booking) were not only the show was scheduled for HH-Milch starting at 23:00 and Die Mimmis to start at 0:15 (as it was during the week, almost no one of the audience did actualy stay longer than noon) but also the owner tried to rip us off (he wanted to change from a fixed rate per band to a part of the door - wich was significant lower). After sorting out that HH-Milch decided to drive back to Hamburg during the night (full of snow) and all in the bus felt asleep (including the driver). We all were up again when the driver (falling asleep) did steer the bus of the road - luckily he was back alive within seconds so all were "rescued". Would have be a smart Rock'n'Roll death - eh?

Funzine 1984 german tour (stop at Darmstadt)

Picture 3: Funzine Deutschland Tour 1984 in Darmstadt (?, Pizza (Funzine), Thomas Koch (AdSW), Rudi K. (Funzine), Biber (Funzine))

Those were the days when during summer school holiday everyone used a "Tramper Monatsticket" from german railway to have 4 weeks of free travel all over germany - thus being a great option to visit fellow fanzine-makers all over germany. Above picture features Thomas Koch of AdSW Fanzine who, being a born Hamburger, had to move with his family to Besenbach near Frankfurt / Darmstadt in the begining of the eighties. The full story of that visit is in an old edition of the Funzine - maybe we will feature it here sometime...Today Thomas Koch is back in Hamburg and still seen at most shows.

Munich punkettes vs. Hamburg punks

Picture 4: Funzine Deutschland Tour 1984 in Munich (?, ?, ? (all girls from Seelenqual Fanzine), Pizza & Rudi K. (Funzine))

"Biergarden in Munich'84 "Englischer Garten", where you can see myself telling old stories to that excited listening 3 girls of the bavarian fanzine SEELENQUAL,while Pizza is bored to death, because he heard that stories already a hundred times before!! That was probably the 2nd large beer that day and there was a bavarian traditional-jodel-leather-throuser-band playing in the background until suddenly a big cloud came up and a kind of tropical rain came down. Everybody was running for cover. It was big fun to see about a 1000 people disappearing from that Beergarden in now time and when the rain stopped, the crowd sudenly got back as quick again, got a new beer and kept on drinking." (Rudi K.)

Punks on the beach - Munich 1984

Picture 5: Funzine Deutschland Tour 1984 in Munich (?, ?, (girls from Seelenqual Fanzine), Thomas Zicklam (Akt der Verzweifelung Fanzine), Pizza & Rudi K. (Funzine))

"Again in Munich'84 together with 2 of the SEELENQUAL girls and Thomas Zicklam from the famous AKT DER VERZWEIFLUNG Fanzine. We had been swimming in the cristal-clear but ice-cold Isar river and had now a few cans of beer. Thomas is now a good money making trader for a big company in Munich! He once told me this story where he drove in his big BMW from a small town back to Munich. He did wear his usual nice suit and a tie. Then he picked up this 3 kid-punks on the way and to break the ice he was thinking that they might wanted to listen to some descent music instead of the radio. So he put in this old tape with Dead Kennedys. The 3 kids couldn't understand what was going on, and asked him:  "How can it be that you are listening to such kind of music?" "Well my friends, many years ago I was a punk myself you see, but I have to look like this because of my job!" Then after a few minutes he had to turn the tape and on the other side was a different band, so the kids where asking him:"Which band is that now?" On the tape have been the Sex Pistols!" (Rudi K.)

Napalm live

Picture 6: Naplm (Arne (b), Reeder (dr), Lui (voc), Witte (git)) from the "Szene Hamburg" punk report by Alf Burchardt

You can spot on stage also Sven (later with Arne in Bierspieler, Noise Anoys, Square the Circle - near the drummer) and ? (name gone, but that kid is still around - on the stage near Witte). Reeder went on to play some years with G.B.H. before returning to Hamburg in the 90ties. He is still druming around in good Bands!

Knallschoten down in the cellar

4th generation punks...?

Picture 8: Young & Snotty Hamburg punks posing for "Szene Hamburg" Artikel on Punk in Hamburg ca. 1984

Again some famous kids on here: ?, Morak, Ille (later fame with Emils), ?, Beefsteak (later as famed as "Hendrix" and now on the mixing desk at the Molotov), ?). The story was by well known writer Alf Burchardt (see inlay of the first Toten Hosen LP) who did some work as tour scout for a local agency (solving problem like the dope supply for Johnny Thunders late in the night), did a lot of music writing (for example an early "Hardcore in Germany" article in ) and now works for some more or less well known magazines. It mainly concentrated around those bands from the "Waterkant Hits" scene wich made up the scene prior to US Hardcore arriving in 1985/1986...Punk then was still UK style punk in Hamburg only.

Are you still punk?

Picture 9: Die Toten Hosen w/ Alf Burchardt & Christan Wriedt at the famouse Subito (Oldpunks night club no. 1 then)

The Subito was a well loved watering hole on Stresemannstrasse - more a "night club" then a pub and was a cool hangout for long nights and hard drinks. Die Toten Hosen were common guests there - highlights were a football game of Die Toten Hosen vs. Subito (that game ended Ted Frosch's football carrer - his kneeds never recovered allthough he still pogo's on shows) and so many stories of drunkness and madness! One of the highlights i recall was a wall full of unpaid bills - hey thats style! The place also had drugs, owner found date after ill-fated drug deals and and and. Great place for a good night out.

Whitehouse - Schrotthouse pikant!Uli Rehberg - the master of Noise!having a laugh!

Picture 10: Whitehouse (UK) , Uli R., Fans (unknown, unkown, Hanno, Kay B., unknown) live at CVJM Dulsberg Nord, Hamburg, ca. 1984

This is another nice odditiy: As Uli Rehberg was allways wide open in noise (the sound space out there is much wider than punk, kid!) he not only advocated US-Hardcore to the kids but also extreme atonal noise (his main source of sound nowadays) - on this occasion he managed to arrange a show with the legendary godfathers of stupid nazi-white noise from UK - Whitehouse. The audience at the small youth center in the middle of Hamburg Dulsberg was a cool mix: atonal/noise freaks (the usual strange looking rich kid) and the punk gang that used Uli's record shop as a hang-out. The "show" itself was a "must" - Whitehouse proved that they had nothing to say besides of strange sounds presented in a "heavy metal" type fashion. In the end we all got drunk and had a lot of fun.

Party or go home (appartment crash party rules!)

Picture 11: Sylvesterparty 1984/85 w/ Frosch (Ted Punk #1), Toni (Grobver Unfug), Volli (HH-Milch), Timo (ex HH-Milch)

The joke is on the Dulsberg Punk! Intelectual Gathering? Where is Mullah now?
Picture 14: Avanti Diletanti, CVJM Dulsberg, 1984 (Biber, Claus B., Slaughter, Timo) Picture 15: Avanti Diletanti, CVJM Dulsberg, 1984 (Dirk (Holy War Fanzine), Volli (HH-Milch), Claus B.) Picture 16: Avanti Diletanti, CVJM Dulsberg, 1984 (Harro (voc), unknown (git), Mullah (watch))

"Avanti Diletanti wasn`t your typical punk band musicwise but they fitted perfectly into our DIY thing. Their shows were always good fun." (Minus)

Funy old pictures these are. And another funy show in one very strange place. Avanti Diletanti were hang-arounds at Unterm durchscnitt (ex-Konneckschen) but significantly older and working as ... teachers. What happend to Mullah (short time co-owner of Unterm Durchschnitt) is unknown, but Uli Rehber might let us know one time ...

Punk and drinking , any questions ? Mark Wills - RIP
Picture 17: Party at Denise 1984 (Kajan (Knallschoten), Beyer (Channel Rats)) Picture 18: Party at Denise 1984 (Mark Wills)

"Oh Man , this guy hanged himself due to heavy depressions. He used to be the fastest drummer in Hamburg. Originally from Fresno/California , he lived many years in HH. We miss him." (Minus)

Mark arrived in Hamburg around1984 and decided to stay here (with plenty of strange stuff around getting "legalized" that ended in getting married). Generaly refered to as "Ami Mark" only he became one of the fastest drummers around, playing in tons of bands. His sad demise was memorated in Dakelblut's song "Will's, nicht mehr!" on their "Fluten und Tauchen" LP in 1997. By he way, back in the US he was plaing in a band that is to be heard on the first Maximum Rock'n'Roll compilation!

Having a good time at a party. Having a good time at a party.
Picture 19: Party at Minus 1984 (Rudi (Knallschoten) harrasing Stickel (Channel Rats)) Picture 20: Party at Minus 1984 (Stickel, Pizza (Knallschoten and Channel Rats drummer), Jürgen (later fame with Bitzcore))

This was at Minus' appartment in the Karoviertel, a punk stronghold due to cheap (and run down) appartments. Worth to note that Minus had (and still has) more tapes than vinyl (actualy he does not even have a record player today!). Nowadays the Karoviertel is somehow "refurbished" and full of new. alternative and underground, cloth shops. Worth to visit, still.

Non rock Hosen

Rockpalast TV Show

Picture 22: Ticket for the Rockpalast (a local TV Show specialicing on live events) show of the Meteors, Markthalle 06.05.1984

Actualy most people wanted to the support act as Jason and the Scorchers sounded "new" and "different" to mainline punk or psycho. If i recall correctly the Meteors show was full-time fight-pogo with lot of blood. And Frosch got his knee injured and ruined!

Hey, a free press ticket, wow!
