1979

First off some cool pictures from The Jam, preserved and made available by Christian - hats off for that:

That's a cool one that came in 2016 only, so just thrown on top of this page.

It is not Aerosmith...

Picture 1: Peter Bassalay at the mixing desk a Razors show at Lübek, ca. 1979 (in the back: Mike Stanger aka Mike Buttock - Singer of the Buttocks)

Hey, thats cool. Our old buddy Peter "The incredible strange Cowboy" Bassalay doing the mixing desk at a Razors (number one street punk band from Hamburg then and now) show in Lübek (you will note a lot of pictures from Lübek here - and you should not wonder: When we were on the road at least someone did remember to take a camera with him. In Hamburg normaly no one took pictures! And if you wonder why Peter did the mixing desk - very simple: he did learn electrician back then (now he is working as a "Dipl.-Ing. (FH)" at the UKE in Hamburg.

Buttocks live at "Zum Flohmarkt" aka Krawall 2000

Picture 2: Buttocks - Krawall 2000, ca. 1979

This is one of the loneley pix from the Krawall 2000 (a pub called "Zum Flohmarkt") wich was the spot for shows in the old days. After the punk hey-days the pub went on under different names, still doing shows - non punk but Uli Rehberg managed to sneak some Noise/Industrial bands in at one occasion. Somewhere in the end of the 80ties the run-down old house were it was located was rebuild and the pub was converted into an appartment. I wonder who lives there - now.

"The Krawall 2000 was just a little pub at the fish market near by the river Elbe. It opened somewhere in 1979 and it was closed for Punk shows a few months later even in 1979, after a few Punks from Osnabrück insulted a few girls, who were doing prostitution on a street near by, so a few pimps showed up and smashed the place. Nevertheless, a bunch of local and non-local hereos played there." (Thomas Koch)

The Buttocks - Hardcore Punk 1979 Style

Picture 3: Buttocks - Promopic, ca. 1979

Well known pic of the band w/ 2 members still sporting long hair. They ruled and defined "Hardcore" way before bands from the US came over with h/c..!

"The Buttocks were posing and they didn’t care, the pic was used for the back cover of their 1st 7". The Buttocks were one of the impressive live bands I’ve ever seen, unfortunately they split up after only two 7"s in 1981. They were fast, young, loud and snotty, maybe the first Hardcore act out of Hamburg town." (Thomas Koch)

Coroners live at the Markthalle

Picture 4: Coroners - Marthalle, ca. 1979

This is - not so sure - a shoot from one of the "into the future" festivals at The Markthalle. The Coroners were young, loud and snotty - so to say! Later members went on to play in NDW bands, if i recall correctly.

"The Coroners were another bunch of local Punksters from Hamburgs eastside. Although they were quite popular, they never did their own record, they are just on a live sampler representing new German bands. Here they did their version of the well-known German X-Mas chant „Ihr Kinderlein kommet"and it goes like this: ....Jesus, the pig, was born today. Maria, the whore, has lost their virginity and so on.... No comment necessary!" (Thomas Koch)

BRAVO RULES

Picture 5: Hamburg Punks at their famouse Hangout "Markstuben" (a pub in the Karoviertel), ca. 1979

This is a great shot that was being published in the well known youth pop tabloid "BRAVO". It was taken at the punk-pub #1 "Marktstuben" in the Karoviertel and pictures well known punks - Marbuse (the future inventor of the most common logo asociated with FC St. Pauli football team - the pirate flag - is trying to hide), Arne (later fame with Napalm, C2I, Noise Annoys and other bands lone and quiet in the back), Brecher (long time bouncer at the "Fabrik") and Holger. The names of the girls did not go into the archive - someone out there to help out? It was a big "hahaha" when this picture came out in the Bravo - no one liked the Bravo - but all got one!

These are 2 real gems that Rudi K. unearthed down on Perth, Australia - wonder how he got that across savely whilst moving around the world before settling down Down Under. Thanks Rudi, anyone else please?

Some nice posters, straight from the wall of Minus' appartment - an unbeliveable vault of treasure for old man like us (click to enlarge):
